DESERVE: Call for Application for the Position of Operations Officer

DESERVE is a non-profit organisation that contributes to sustainable development by empowering communities, raising awareness, conducting policy advocacy and implementing practical initiatives that promote personal and collective health and well-being. Our work targets women, children, adolescents and other vulnerable populations.

As DESERVE continues to develop its programmes and organisational capacity, we are seeking a capable and motivated Operations Officer to support these initiatives.

About the Role

The Operations Officer will support DESERVE’s day-to-day operations, project implementation, organisational strengthening and programme development. The professional will work across different areas of the organisation, helping to ensure that priorities are translated into actions, activities are properly coordinated, deadlines are followed and organisational systems continue to develop.

We are looking for a proactive, adaptable and well-organised professional who can work across multiple responsibilities, communicate effectively, take initiative and contribute constructively to the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

The Operations Officer will be expected to:

  • Coordinate and follow up on day-to-day organisational operations and priorities.
  • Support the planning, coordination, implementation and follow-up of projects and programmes.
  • Develop and maintain project workplans, activity schedules and operational plans.
  • Coordinate staff, volunteers, consultants and other project contributors as required.
  • Monitor progress against organisational and project priorities and follow up on outstanding tasks.
  • Support the development of project concepts, proposals and budgets.
  • Contribute to grant sourcing and the identification of funding opportunities.
  • Support organisational strengthening, including the development and improvement of internal systems, procedures and documentation.
  • Coordinate meetings, activities, communications and other operational requirements.
  • Support preparation of project and organisational reports.
  • Work with other team members to ensure effective coordination of programme and operational activities.
  • Contribute to research, programme development and other organisational initiatives where appropriate.
  • Undertake other reasonable operational and administrative tasks as required, to ensure the effective functioning and development of the organisation.


Essential Requirements
Applicants should:

  • Hold a postgraduate degree/diploma in Management, Project Management, Administration, Economics or another relevant field or an undergraduate degree/diploma with at least three years of relevant experience in project management, organisational management, operations or a related area.
  • Demonstrate experience in project development, coordination, management, administration or organisational operations.
  • Have strong organisational, planning, time-management, follow-up and presentational skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrate experience in applying research and analytical skills to project management, monitoring, evaluation and evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Have a strong command of written and spoken English and at least functional or communicable proficiency in French.
  • Be competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Be comfortable using internet-based communication and collaboration tools, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and related platforms.
  • Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, sound judgement and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be willing to work in a dynamic organisational environment and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.


Desirable Experience
The following will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience working with NGOs, civil society organisations or community-based organisations.
  • Experience in health and well-being initiatives, including sexual, reproductive, maternal, new-born, child and adolescent health and nutrition (SRMNCAH+N)
  • Experience in teaching, pedagogy or curriculum development.
  • Experience working with women, children, adolescents or other vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in digital content creation like graphics designing and video editing 


Location and Mobility

This is an in-person position based in Yaounde, Cameroon. The successful candidate will be expected to work primarily from the organisation’s office in Yaounde and should be willing to travel as required by the organisation’s activities. Remote work may be possible depending on operational needs.

Probation, Contract Period and Remuneration

This is a paid position and will be subject to a six- to eight-month probationary period, during which performance and suitability for the role will be assessed. The terms of the probationary engagement, including applicable remuneration, will be provided in writing.

The position is funded for an initial period of 20 months, subject to the terms of the work arrangement and continued availability of funding. Successful completion of the probationary period may lead to confirmation, with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability, organisational needs and satisfactory performance.
