News on the Second National Training on Adolescent Health and Well-being and, Publication and Launching of the Dissemination of the Adolescent Health and Well-being Manual in Cameroon by DESEREVE
Deserve Org has published the manual: ‘The Health and Well-being of Adolescents and Young People in Cameroon: Advocating for Change for Adolescents Toolkit in Cameroon, Policies, Actions, Meaningful Engagement’ in both English and French. The release of the manual took place in Yaounde during the 2nd National Training on Adolescent Health and Well-being convened by DESERVE and attended by four government representatives from Ministère de la Jeunesse et de l’Education Civique 237, Ministère de la Promotion de la Femme et de la Famille, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Basic Education. More than 30 organisations were represented during this event.
DESERVE Manager, Desmond Nji who has led this project from inception welcomed participants and presented a strong case for families, communities and the State to invest in the health and well-being of the adolescent population in Cameroon. DESERVE held more than 25 workshops to develop these tools. Results of the survey on what young people want for their well-being in Cameroon was also presented. The #1point8 campaign saw the enumeration of over 55,000 responses from young people 10 to 24 years across Cameroon. Many expressed needs around good health, education opportunities, infrastructure, social peace etc. Stakeholders were enjoined to commit to the global Agenda for Action for Adolescents.
This event at the tail end of the year marks the beginning of the dissemination of this toolkit across Cameroon whose foreword is authored by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou.
