About the Role
The Finance Officer will help in managing DESERVE’s day-to-day financial operations and supporting sound financial planning, record keeping, budgeting, expenditure monitoring and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with other team members to ensure that financial processes support effective programme implementation and organisational operations.
We are looking for a person who is organised, trustworthy, analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
The Finance Officer will be expected to:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date and organised financial records and supporting documentation.
- Develop budgets; record and monitor income, expenditure, payments and other financial transactions.
- Support preparation and monitoring of organisational and project budgets.
- Prepare periodic financial reports for management and project reporting purposes.
- Manage payroll and other staff-related financial administration where required.
- Provide financial information and advice to support organisational and project decision-making.
- Assist with audits or other financial reviews.
- Support the development and improvement of internal financial procedures and systems, including day-to-day financial record-keeping using Excel and/or digital accounting software.
- Perform additional financial and administrative tasks, as reasonably required, to support the organisation’s effective functioning.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should:
- Hold at least a degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Demonstrate relevant experience in accounting, financial management, finance administration or a related area.
- Have practical knowledge of budgeting, financial record keeping, expenditure monitoring and financial reporting.
- Demonstrate strong numerical, analytical, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Have strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial information.
- Demonstrate integrity, confidentiality, accountability and sound professional judgement.
- Be able to manage multiple financial tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Be competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Be competent in using digital financial, communication and document-management tools.
- Have a strong command of written and spoken English and at least functional or communicable proficiency in French.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff from different functions.
- Be willing to work in a dynamic organisational environment, engage effectively with diverse people, and adapt to changing operational requirements.
Desirable Experience
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Experience working with NGOs, civil society organisations or community-based organisations.
- Experience in project financial management and reporting.
- Experience supporting audits or other financial reviews.
- Experience working on health, development, community or social-sector programmes.
Location and Mobility
This is an in-person position based in Yaounde, Cameroon. The successful candidate will be expected to work primarily from the organisation’s office in Yaounde and should be willing to travel as required by the organisation’s activities. Remote work may be possible depending on operational needs.
Probation, Contract Period and Remuneration
This is a paid position and will be subject to a six-month probationary period, during which performance and suitability for the role will be assessed. The terms of the probationary engagement, including applicable remuneration, will be provided in writing.
The position is funded for an initial period of 20 months, subject to the terms of the work arrangement and continued availability of funding. Successful completion of the probationary period may lead to confirmation, with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability, organisational needs and satisfactory performance.
